Thornton is a KC registered WCS (Glanhowy Nimrod), he enjoys perfect health and is clear of genetically inherited conditions. He’s been DNA tested clear for PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy) , FN (Familial Nephropathy) , AON (Adult Onset Neuropathy) by Laboklin UK and AMS (Acral Mutilation Syndrome) by Antagene, meaning he’ll never pass down the mutated genes which cause these diseases. He has a current BVA/KC/ISDS Eye Certificate and PLA Grade 1. Certificates for tests provided on request. There are 39 GB Field Trial Champions in his pedigree! His father (Bishwell Barcud) has achieved FTCH status.
He has a straight and firm stance with strong muscular legs, shoulders and neck. His temperament is classic Cocker Spaniel – gentle and affectionate, but full of life, with an ‘off’ switch in the home. He has been Pheasant & Duck beating over the past 5 seasons working across multiple shoots in the Bristol and Gloucestershire area. He is very well regarded by guns and beaters alike. Whilst we have no intention of ‘formally’ training him as a gun dog, we have been keen to allow him the opportunity to work and he is always very focused on work. He shows no fear of heavy cover when working, works well with other dogs and has excellent recall, he has the stamina to flush for a full day without loss of energy or enthusiasm.
Thornton has achieved his Gold KC certificate for Obedience training. Thornton also attended Dog Agility training twice a week which he performed really well at and loved.
Over 30 healthy litters of pups to date throwing gold, red, black, black and tan, roan, black and white ticked, lemon and white ticked, orange and white ticked, Tri (blue roan & tan). Thornton does not carry the Liver gene. Also, Thornton is now a grandpa!
